Description
Technical Parameters
Short path distillation is a special distillation method mainly used for materials with high boiling point, temperature resistance, high molecular weight, and high viscosity. It is also known as molecular distillation or short range distillation.
This distillation method can complete the separation process in a very short time, hence it is called "short path". Its working principle is based on the principle of molecular distillation, operating at a short distance between the heating and condensing surfaces to achieve efficient separation.

Product Introduction
Short path distillation separates liquid mixtures by controlling temperature and pressure, which has the advantages of high efficiency, stability, and energy conservation.
They can be divided into the following two types in terms of materials:
◆ Traditional glass distillation equipment: Traditional short path distillation equipment is usually made of glass material. This material has good transparency, can observe the distillation process, and has good corrosion resistance to many chemical substances. However, glass materials may have certain mechanical strength and thermal stability limitations in high temperature and high vacuum environments.
◆ Stainless steel distillation equipment: Stainless steel material is also widely used in the manufacturing of short range distillation equipment due to its excellent corrosion resistance, high-temperature stability, and mechanical strength. Stainless steel distillation equipment can withstand higher operating pressure and temperature, and is suitable for handling chemicals with higher corrosiveness.

The distillation system consists of the following components:
◆ Distillation tower: The distillation tower is the core component of the entire system, with multi-level separation layers. Distillation towers typically contain fillers or plate structures inside to increase surface area and contact time, thereby improving separation efficiency.
◆ Heating system: The heating system is responsible for providing energy to heat the mixture to the desired evaporation temperature. Electric heaters or hot oil circulation systems are usually used to provide uniform heating.
◆ Cooling system: The cooling system is used to quickly condense steam during the fractionation process and convert it into liquid. The cooling system can be cooled by methods such as cold water circulation or liquid nitrogen injection.
◆ Vacuum pumping system: The vacuum pumping system is used to create a high vacuum environment to reduce the boiling point during the fractionation process and reduce the pressure of gas phase components. Usually, vacuum pumps or other high-efficiency vacuum equipment are used to achieve this.
◆ Collection system: The collection system is used to collect purified products and by-products after separation. It can include components such as condensers and collection containers to receive condensed steam.

Applications
Short path distillation is mainly applied to materials with high boiling point, temperature resistance, high molecular weight, and high viscosity, such as lactic acid, VE, fish oil, dimeric acid, trimeric acid, silicone oil, fatty acid, binary acid, linoleic acid, flaxseed oleic acid, natural pharmaceutical active ingredient extraction, glycerol, fatty acid esters, essential oils, isocyanates, isobutyl ketone, polyethylene glycol, cyclohexanol, etc. Short range distillation operates under high vacuum, therefore it has the characteristics of energy conservation and environmental protection.

Petrochemical industry
It can be used for the fractionation of petroleum crude oil, coal to oil, rare earth element separation in petrochemical industry, etc.
Pharmaceutical industry
Short path molecular distillation can be used to extract effective ingredients from natural products, such as traditional Chinese medicine extraction and purification in synthetic drugs.
Food industry
Short path vacuum distillation can be used to extract essence, pigments, nutrients, etc., which plays a great role in improving the taste and quality of food.
Environmental protection industry
It also has applications in environmental protection, such as for treating wastewater containing organic pollutants.
Maintenance

The maintenance and upkeep of short path distillation is crucial for the stable operation and service life of the equipment. Here are some recommended maintenance steps:
Cleaning equipment: Regularly clean the equipment, both internally and externally, to remove accumulated dirt, residue, or sediment. Suitable cleaning agents and tools can be used for cleaning, taking care not to damage the sealing structure and surface of the equipment.
Check seals: Regularly inspect the seals of the equipment, including sealing rings, gaskets, and other components, to ensure that they are intact and undamaged. If there is wear, aging, or leakage, replace it in a timely manner.
Check the heating system: Regularly check the operation status of heating pipes, controllers, and other equipment to ensure that the heating system can operate normally.
Check the vacuum pump: Regularly check the operation status of the vacuum pump, including pump oil, seals, etc., to ensure that the pump can work properly and replace damaged parts in a timely manner.
Check the cooling system: Regularly check the operation status of cooling water pipes, coolers, and other equipment to ensure that the cooling system can function properly.
Keep the equipment dry: The interior of the equipment needs to be kept dry to avoid affecting its lifespan. During shutdown, the liquid inside the equipment should be promptly emptied while keeping the equipment dry.
Record equipment operation data: It is recommended to record equipment operation data, such as temperature, pressure, vacuum degree, etc., for fault diagnosis and regular maintenance.
Comparison with film evaporator
Compared to thin-film evaporators, short-range distillation (molecular distillation) has the following advantages:
The distance between cold and hot contact surfaces is shorter, the evaporation efficiency is higher, and the evaporation speed is faster.
The lower temperature required for evaporation helps to reduce energy consumption and thermal damage of heat-sensitive substances.
However, the structure of short-range distillation is relatively more complex and the price is relatively expensive.
