Rotary evaporators are chemical laboratory instruments primarily used for evaporating liquids and separating different chemical components from samples. They are particularly useful in research on organic solvents and compounds.

Rotary Evaporator Distillation

1. Basic Principles and Components:

Principle: Rotary evaporators utilize the physical processes of thermal evaporation and free diffusion of gas molecules. They convert liquid substances into their gaseous state, enabling separation and concentration of substances.

2. Components:

Distillation Flask: A cylindrical glass container that holds the liquid sample.

Rotation Motor: A device that rotates the distillation flask, agitating the liquid and promoting uniform evaporation.

Vacuum Pump: Responsible for creating a vacuum environment, which reduces the pressure during evaporation, enhancing the evaporation rate and reducing interactions between the vapor and liquid phases.

3. Working Mechanism:

Liquid Entry: Liquid enters the rotary evaporator through a feed pipe into the rotating chamber.

Rotation: The motor drives the rotation of the chamber, forming a thin film of liquid on the inner wall, which increases the heat transfer area.

Heat Transfer: A heating medium (such as steam or hot water) passes through a heat exchanger, transferring heat to the liquid film. This causes the liquid to evaporate.

Concentration and Scraping: As the chamber rotates, concentrated substances solidify and form a film, flowing down the inner wall and being scraped off by a scraper.

Separation: The evaporated liquid vapor and remaining gases enter a separator. In the separator, the liquid vapor condenses into liquid, while the gases are vented.

Discharge: The separated liquid exits through an outlet, and the remaining gases exit through a vent.

4. Applications:

Rotary evaporators find applications in various fields, including chemistry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, and petrochemical industries. They are used for tasks such as chemical synthesis, drug purification, food concentration, and petroleum refining.

How to choose?

Rotavapor Distillation

01. Experiment or production scale

If your experiment or production is small, or you only need to handle a medium amount of samples, then 50L spin steaming may be more suitable for you.

If you need to handle a large number of samples, or if the experimental/production scale is large, then 100L spin steaming will provide more capacity and higher processing power.

02. Cost

In general, the initial purchase cost of 100L rotary steaming will be higher than 50L rotary steaming.
However, if you need to process a large number of samples, purchasing a larger capacity of spin steaming may save costs in the long run because you can reduce the number and time of batch processing.

03. Space limitation

Consider the size of your laboratory or production floor space. If space is limited, 50L rotary steaming may be more suitable. If you have enough space, 100L spinning won't be a problem.

04. Experimental requirements

If your experiment requires high vacuum or precise temperature control, you may want to consider the technical specifications and performance of spin steaming, not just capacity. Make sure the steam you choose meets your experimental requirements.

05. Care and maintenance

No matter which type of steam is chosen, it requires regular maintenance and maintenance to ensure its proper operation.
However, larger capacity spinning may require more care and maintenance work.
Make sure you have sufficient resources and time to maintain the selected steam.

06. Future expansion

If you anticipate the need to increase the experimental or production scale in the future, then purchasing a larger capacity of spin steaming may be a wise choice.
This way, you can easily expand in the future without having to replace the device.

To sum up, the choice of 50L or 100L rotary steaming depends on your specific needs and application scenarios. Consider these factors carefully before making a decision.
