Case background

In the production process of a polymer material, a polymerization reaction is required to prepare the target product. Considering that polymerization reaction requires high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and sealing performance of the equipment, stainless steel reactor is selected as the reaction equipment.

Equipment selection

Material: 316 stainless steel is selected as the main material of the reactor, because it has good corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, and can meet the strict requirements of temperature, pressure and chemical environment in the polymerization process.

Structure: The reactor is composed of pot body, pot cover, agitator, jacket, support and transmission device, shaft seal device, etc. Among them, the agitator uses a frame type or anchor type mixing paddle to ensure that the material is fully mixed during the reaction process. The jacket is used to provide a heating or cooling medium to maintain a stable temperature of the reaction system.

Polymerization process

Preparation stage: The monomer, catalyst and other raw materials involved in the polymerization reaction are added to the stainless steel reactor in accordance with a certain proportion.

Heating stage: By means of steam or electric heating through the jacket, the temperature in the reactor is gradually increased to the temperature required for polymerization. During this process, the agitator continues to work to ensure that the material is evenly heated.

Reaction stage: After reaching the set temperature, the monomer begins the polymerization reaction under the action of the catalyst. The agitator continues to work to promote adequate contact and reaction between materials.

Cooling stage: After the polymerization reaction is completed, the cooling medium (such as cooling water) is passed through the jacket to reduce the temperature in the reactor to a safe range.

Discharge stage: After the temperature in the reactor drops to the appropriate discharge temperature, open the discharge valve and discharge the polymerization product.

(Advantages and effects)

Efficient mixing: The mixing device in the stainless steel reactor is reasonably designed to ensure that the material is fully mixed during the reaction process, improving the efficiency of the polymerization reaction and the uniformity of the product.

Stable temperature control: The jacket design allows the reactor to easily control the reaction temperature, ensuring that the polymerization reaction is carried out under optimal temperature conditions.

Corrosion resistance: 316 stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance and can resist the corrosion of equipment that may be caused by corrosive substances in the polymerization process.

Good sealing performance: The shaft sealing device adopts a pressure-resistant sanitary mechanical sealing device, which can effectively prevent material leakage and external impurities from entering the reactor.

Stainless steel reactors are used for the purpose of polymerization cases

Stainless steel reactor: the core equipment in the chemical industry

Efficient production of polymer materials: The primary purpose is to use the superior properties of stainless steel reactors, such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, good sealing and stirring efficiency, to efficiently carry out polymerization reactions, so as to produce the required polymer materials. These materials are widely used in medicine, chemical industry, food packaging, building materials and other fields.

Ensure product quality: By precisely controlling parameters such as reaction temperature, stirring speed and reaction time, stainless steel reactor can ensure the uniformity and consistency of polymerization reaction, thereby improving product quality and stability. This is especially important for the production of products that require high precision control.

Improve production efficiency: The high degree of automation of stainless steel reactor can reduce manual operation, reduce labor intensity, and shorten the production cycle. This helps to improve production efficiency, reduce production costs, and enhance the market competitiveness of enterprises.

Ensure production safety: polymerization process may involve high temperature, high pressure and corrosive substances, stainless steel reactor corrosion resistance and sealing performance can effectively prevent material leakage and foreign impurities into the production safety. At the same time, the safety protection device of the equipment (such as over-temperature and over-voltage protection) can also cut off the power supply or stop the reaction in time in abnormal circumstances to prevent accidents.

Environmental protection and sustainability: Stainless steel reactors also play an important role in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development by optimizing the polymerization process and reducing the production of by-products and waste emissions. In addition, the recyclability of stainless steel also meets the requirements of green production.

Advantages and disadvantages of stainless steel reactor for polymerization

Advantage

Strong corrosion resistance:

Stainless steel reactor is made of stainless steel material, which can resist the erosion of a variety of acids, alkali, salt and other chemical substances, so as to ensure that the equipment will not be corroded by the reaction medium during the polymerization reaction process, and extend the service life of the equipment. Good high temperature resistance:

Stainless steel material has a high melting point and thermal expansion coefficient, can maintain the stability of the structure at high temperatures, not easy to deformation. Therefore, stainless steel reactors are suitable for many high-temperature polymerization processes and can ensure that the reaction is carried out smoothly under the required high temperature conditions. Good pressure resistance:

Stainless steel reactors can withstand a certain amount of pressure, which gives them advantages in high-pressure polymerization reactions. The high strength and hardness of the stainless steel material ensure that the equipment will not be deformed or cracked under high internal pressure, thus ensuring the safe conduct of the reaction. Good heat transfer effect:

The heat transfer effect of the stainless steel reactor is better, and it can be heated or cooled quickly, which is conducive to controlling the temperature of the polymerization reaction and improving the reaction efficiency. At the same time, good heat transfer performance also helps to reduce energy consumption and reduce production costs. (Source: Chemical Instrument Network)

Compact structure and easy operation:

Stainless steel reactor is usually composed of cylinder, cone bottom, cover, heating, cooling, mixing and other components, compact structure, small footprint, suitable for use in small work space. At the same time, its operation is relatively simple, and it can easily fill materials, discharge products, stirring reactions and other operations. (Source: Hundred)

Clean and easy to maintain:

Stainless steel reactor has a smooth inner wall, not easy to produce precipitation, residue, etc., easy to clean and maintain. In addition, the stainless steel material itself has good hygiene performance, non-toxic and tasteless, in line with the hygiene requirements of the food and pharmaceutical industry, and is also suitable for polymerization reactions with high hygiene requirements. Shortcoming

Higher cost:

Compared with some other materials of the reactor, the price of stainless steel reactor is higher. This is mainly due to the high cost of stainless steel materials and the complexity of the manufacturing process. (Source: Chemical Instrument Network)

Larger weight:

Stainless steel reactor is usually heavier due to its material and structural characteristics. For some reactors that need to be moved or hoisted, this may increase the difficulty and cost of operation. (Source: Chemical Instrument Network)

Heat transfer may be inadequate in some cases:

Although the heat transfer effect of stainless steel reactor is better, in some specific polymerization reactions, better heat transfer performance may be required. This may require additional heating or cooling equipment to meet the requirements of the reaction. (Source: Chemical Instrument Network)

Poor impact resistance:

Although the stainless steel material itself has strong mechanical properties, if the stainless steel reactor is not designed or manufactured properly, or is improperly impacted during use, it may cause damage to the equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to avoid hard objects hitting the reactor during use. (Source: Chemical Instrument Network)
