A Drop Tube Furnace may often refer to a drop tube furnace (DTF) or a tube furnace with a lift function,both of which are described in detail below: 

 Settling tube furnace

The settler tube furnace is a kind of entrain flow reactor,which is simple in structure and adopts a thin tubular reactor with a flow pattern similar to that of piston flow.The heating elements are arranged uniformly around the reaction tube and the temperature is controlled separately,which can achieve good isothermal characteristics in the furnace and obtain a long constant temperature reaction zone.

In the settling tube furnace reactor,the heating rate and temperature of particles are similar to that of suspended combustion.This reactor can simulate the thermal conditions of particles on the flame front (gas temperature 1000~1500℃,heating rate >10℃/s),which is very close to the actual heating rate in industrial reactors.It can accurately reflect the gasification reactivity of coal coke with CO2 or H2O at a high heating rate above 1000℃. Therefore,the settler tube furnace is often used to study the reactivity of coal,adaptability of coal and gasification behavior of coal.
